NYC Wedding Officiants

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials. We know you are excited about so many different elements of your wedding. But have you given much thought to the person who will actually be leading your words through the most important part. Your choice of an officiant is a lot more important that you might realize. You certainly want everything to come off very professionally and the right officiant can make that happen. The wrong one can make things go downhill very quickly. In order to make sure that you have the best chance of hiring the best officiant possible, here are some very important questions to ask when you meet with each one.

Any potential officiant that you are considering you will want to meet in person and have a nice face to face chat about what you have in mind for your wedding and what they can possibly provide or bring to your wedding. Talk about what kind of input you and your fiancé can have in terms of customizing the ceremony. A professional officiant should be able to allow you quite a bit of say in customizing the ceremony to your vision. If they tell you no, that the ceremony has to be done exactly one way, move onto another candidate. Have them share with you sample events and wording that they have done in past weddings.

Keep in mind that some officiants will want to hold counseling sessions with you and your fiancé if they are going to perform your wedding. You will have to decide if this is something that you believe will be advantageous for you and if you are willing to accept it. Also, if this is a requirement, keep in mind that some officiants are not licensed for this kind of think so you will need to sort that out. Another important question is what would happen if your chose officiant can't make it to your ceremony for some reason. What would the backup plan be?

Here is another key question. Will they marry you if you and your fiancé are of different faiths or if either of you have been divorced? Will they allow you to write your own vows? If so, will they help you write them? One thing that you will want to make sure of is that they will participate in the rehearsal. You don't want anyone to be up on the stage unsure of what is to happen next. It might be nice to extend an invitation to the officiant to come to the reception. Have a discussion about attire. Are there any restrictions and what exactly will the officiant be wearing. If this is not quite what you had in mind, have a discussion about that immediately and see if they are flexible. If flash photography allowed during the ceremony? Some officiants do not like a lot of photography interrupting or getting in the way of what they have to say. Obviously, you have the final say on issues of this magnitude. Ask them if they are willing to wear a microphone? Your videographer may demand this and it should be an accommodation they are willing to make. When you are satisfied with the answers of one particular officiant and their price is right, get everything in writing. You can rest easy now in the knowledge that your ceremony will come off very well.
